By Maggie Perez on Thursday, March 29th, 2012
The EWI Technical Seminar: Surface Engineering was held on Wednesday 3/28 & Thursday 3/29. Surface Engineering is a vast and growing field characterized by a wide array of processes, materials, markets, applications and service environments (wear, corrosion, combinations thereof, Etc.) for which cost-effective solutions are required.
There was great interest in this field and we had a full house. Some of our guests were Cybersonics, IBC Coating Technologies, Select Arc, Parker Hannifin, Babcock & Wilcox, Idaho National Lab, Boeing and Bohler Welding Group.
The EWI speakers and topics discussed were:
Ian Harris, Technology Leader – Began with an overview of industry trends and needs for surface engineering.
Kirk Cooper, Sr. Engineer, Materials & Structural Integrity – Gave a talk on Tribiological Testing
- Kirk Cooper – Sr. Engineer
Dr. George Ritter, Principal Engineer, Materials & Structural Integrity – Gave a talk on Inorganic Coatings for Surface Modification & Protection
- George Ritter – Technology Leader
We had a great group of engineers who gave our guests a tour of EWI’s facilities. Our guests saw many of EWI’s technology capabilities and Bohler Welding Group was on hand to demonstrate the Electroslag Cladding process. Our guests also visited the Design Control & Automation lab, as well as the, High Powered Ultra Sonic Machining Lab.
The first day ended with a reception held at EWI. Our guests took some time to unwind, relax and have drinks & appetizers while networking with other attendees.
