Over the next couple of weeks I will be introducing members of our Arc Welding team and describing their background and areas of expertise. The first installment is my bio. Prior to joining EWI, Steve Massey was a Senior Engineer at Panasonic Factory Automation (Currently Miller Welding Automation) . While at Panasonic, he provided application assistance and technical support for arc welding, cutting, dispensing, and material handling applications. Steve would also complete installation and perform application assistance on newly installed industrial robot systems.
His strengths are in implementation of advanced robotic options for arc welding applications. These include, but are not limited to through arc, spin arc, harmonized motion, flexible multiple cooperative control, touch sensing, and palletizing. In addition to these activities, he also conducted training on robot and system operation, provided troubleshooting and repairs for controls and equipment related issues.
Background and Project Experience
Steve’s current work involves research and consulting in the area of arc welding, allied processes, and automation. He has experience with gas metal arc welding (GMAW), pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW-P), tandem GMAW, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), submerged arc welding (SAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), plasma arc cutting (PAC), industrial automation and controls. He has a B.S. in Welding Engineering from The Ohio State University and is an AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
