What is this Movember that you speak of?

By Steve Massey on Thursday, October 27th, 2011

If you visit EWI during the month of November, chances are that you will notice a few differences around the building. Twenty-five of EWI’s male associates, led by members of the Arc Welding team, have committed to having a face grown and hand brushed moustache for what is now known as the month of Movember.

The purpose of Movember is to raise funding and awareness for prostate cancers and other cancers that affect men. So when you see a guy from EWI sporting a sweet moustache (Let’s say during a presentation on “Mechanization of Short Welds in Heavy Fabrications” at the FABTECH show on Thursday Movember 17th at 11:00am during the Industrial Technology session) a simple nod and a smile can serve as your vote of approval.

One of the requirements for Movember is that you must start clean-shaven on Movember 1st. Now this is a big commitment for two of us on the Arc Welding team.

I have been growing my current goatee for approximately five years and have been blessed with my facial hair prowess over the years, coming to know the performance of a razor at a very young age. My goatee has been fortunate to take on many forms during my post-adolescence lifetime. There have been styles ranging from the well groomed goatee to “the soul patch” to the “Captain Lou Albano” that you now have the privilege of witnessing. The most recent time that I was sans facial hair was when I interviewed at EWI.

I hope that my new moustache will be strong enough to finally stand on its own, without the support of hair on other parts of my face.

Either way, I hope you visit EWI during the month of Movember to see the Mo-Bros.
