Columbus, OH: EWI announced today that President & CEO Dr. Henry Cialone will retire after nearly two decades of leading the organization. The EWI Board of Directors has initiated a comprehensive search for the organization’s next leader.

Henry Cialone

“After a lot of thought, I’ve decided now is the right time for me to step back and spend more time with my family,” said Cialone. “It has been an honor to lead EWI for the past 20 years and to work alongside such a talented team committed to advancing innovation in manufacturing. I remain deeply dedicated to EWI’s mission and will help ensure the new leader is well prepared to carry the torch forward in the months ahead.”

Since joining EWI in 2005, Cialone has transformed the organization into a powerhouse of innovation and industry collaboration. Under his leadership, EWI expanded its core technology capabilities and led the formation of public-private partnerships. His efforts significantly accelerated the commercialization of breakthrough technologies, resulting in several successful spinout ventures including UltraThinSeal™, RealWeld Systems, Fabrisonic, and Acoustech Systems.

“Henry has led EWI through a number of significant achievements, such as the opening of EWI’s Buffalo facility in 2014 and the recent affiliate partnership with CWB Group,” said Greg Moore, Chair of the EWI Board. “He has spearheaded bold initiatives that leverage technology to deliver real value to the industry and he leaves a lasting legacy of innovation, integrity, and impact. We are grateful for Henry’s leadership and his support as we search for the right person to build on this strong foundation.”

Prior to his time at EWI, Cialone served in senior executive roles at Battelle, where he managed the commercial energy technology portfolio and served on the governing board of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. A respected voice in the manufacturing and technology sectors, he has contributed his expertise to numerous advisory boards and completed executive programs at both the Fuqua School of Business and The Wharton School. Henry holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Materials Science from Brown University and continues to serve on the boards of organizations including Biosortia Pharmaceuticals, EWI UltraThinSeal, and Insyte Consulting.

Cialone intends to stay in his role until the new CEO has been announced and a smooth transition has taken place.
