“Joining Without Adhesives” is an interactive deep dive session that explores the innovative approach of creating strong, reliable joints without traditional bonding agents. This method harnesses surface chemistry, polymer dynamics, and advanced technologies, focusing on principles like surface energy, wettability, molecular interactions, and polymer chain dynamics. Participants will engage with the science behind bonding across diverse materials, including metals, thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, ceramics, and elastomers, while examining technologies such as friction welding, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, diffusion bonding, mechanical interlocking, and surface activation. The session will address challenges like low surface energy, oxidation, and material brittleness, highlighting how adhesive-free joining reduces environmental impact, enhances durability, and supports lightweight, sustainable designs. Through detailed discussions and hands-on learning, attendees will gain insights into the processes required to achieve robust, reliable connections across six material types, making this session invaluable for industries like aerospace, automotive, and medical devices.
