EWI congratulates long-time associate Nancy Porter, PMP, on receiving the 2024 George E. Willis Award at the AWS National Award Recognition Ceremony during FABTECH Expo in September. This award, administered by the American Welding Society and sponsored by The Lincoln Electric Company, honors individuals who advance international welding through cooperation in technology transfer and standards and promotion of good will.
For more than 30 years, Nancy has managed a diverse portfolio of R&D programs for EWI’s Navy customers, including projects for the Office of Naval Research’s Navy ManTech Program. She has led multi-organization teams for shipyards producing submarines and aircraft carriers and is currently involved with EWI’s Navy ManTech and BlueForge Alliance programs. Nancy has also contributed to the National Shipbuilding Research Program and the DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. She has presented at various technical conferences including the AWS Technical Program (FABTECH), AWS Welding Summit, ShipTech, NSRP All Panel Meeting, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and the Defense Manufacturing Conference.
Before joining EWI, Nancy held engineering roles at Komatsu Dresser, Pratt & Whitney, Rocky Flats – Martin Marietta, and the Department of Energy’s Piketon facility. She is passionate about mentoring welding engineering students and junior engineers. Congratulations, Nancy!
