Tele-manufacturing Goes to Sea: Bringing Remote, Automated Processes onto Deployed Vessels

The ability to make repairs to ships at sea and easily evaluate the results while in service is a potential game-changer for the U.S. Navy. Recently, EWI tested two new technologies at sea during the NCMS Repair Technology Engagement Exercise (REPTX).

The demonstrations aboard the Navy’s Self-Defense Test Ship verified the ease and effectiveness of performing cold spray and tele-inspection for repair and assessment on a deployed ship. This project and its results are discussed in Tele-manufacturing Goes to Sea: Bringing Remote, Automated Processes onto Deployed Vessels written by EWI engineers Connie LaMorte, Howard Marotto, and Lindsey Lindamood.
