AMC meeting held at EWI

December 8, 2011

The  Additive Manufacturing Consortium (AMC) held its Fifth Quarterly members meeting at EWI, today.  The meeting was led by Ian Harris, Director of AMC.  Among some of the attendees were GE Aviation, Applied Optimization, University of Dayton, Lockheed Martin, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Goodrich and TechSolve

Dr. Todd Rockstroh of GE aviation presented GE’s perspective on AM – they have designated their Global Research Center (GRC) to be the AM focal point for GE where the processes are expected to be developed.  Robert McEwan of GE Transportation-Aircraft Engines said, “in our lifetime I expect 50% of engine components could be produced with AM processes.”

Additionally, GE committed to invest at least 100k next year to support AMC.  And other major OEMs were encouraged to do the same.

Chad Henry of Lockheed Martin presented an idea for a Joint Industry Program (JIP) to the group which received positive support.  The group is anxious to move forward on future projects – with the goal to advance the AM maturity (MRL).
