An ICME Approach for Predicting Microstructural Features and HAZ Hardness in Steel Alloys

March 26, 2024

Weld thermal history, which greatly affects material microstructure especially in the heat affected zone (HAZ), can be difficult to predict accurately.

As part of its ICME approach to predicting microstructural behavior in welding steels, EWI employs welding thermal cycle data — welding parameters, materials chemical composition, joint design, and materials thickness as baseline inputs — to create a better prediction model. This staightforward, data-based methodology is discussed in Application of ICME-based Tools for Predicting Microstructures and HAZ Hardness When Arc Welding Steels by EWI Principal Engineer Alber Sadek.
