Congratulations to EWI Principal Engineer Michael Eff who has won (along with colleagues Logan Smith and Ian Donaldson) the 2022 Howard I. Sanderow Outstanding Technical Paper Award from The Metal Powder Industries Federation.
The paper, Joining of Two-Piece Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite (Al-MMC) Transmission Carrier Via Friction Stir Welding, was selected from all of those presented at the PowderMet2022 conference held earlier this year in Portland, Oregon. The work describes a successful alternative to mechanical fastening in automotive transmission carrier assemblies.
The paper was originally published as part of the conference proceedings, “Advances in Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials — 2022” and has also been recently published in the Fall 2022 issue of “International Journal of Powder Metallurgy.” The Sanderow Award will be presented at the upcoming PowderMet2023 conference in Las Vegas this coming spring.
