Electric Vehicle Charging Comes to EWI

March 14, 2012

Today EWI entered the future of electrified transportation with the installation of a new GE DuraStation. The GE DuraStation is a fast level 2 charger for electric vehicles, allowing a full charge in about 4-8 hours, with a 208-240VAC at 40A.  The charger was expertly installed by Roberts Electrical Construction Co.   and the equipment was made possible by a donation from The Ohio State University Center for Automotive Research (OSU CAR) as part of their mission to increase awareness and availability of advanced vehicle technologies. EWI works with several major battery manufacturers including those predominantly used in the current generation of electric vehicles. Our main development thrust these days is determining the best processes and materials to join lithium-ion battery packs and designing tab to bus bar joints that are reliable and easily manufactured. These are tough engineering challenges for the next generation of electric vehicles and the batteries they rely on. So if you’re in the neighborhood, alleviate your range anxiety by stopping in for a fast charge.

 Happy Trails to you…
