Earlier this month, EWI introduced the first installment in our series Challenges in Heavy Manufacturing with Part I: Predicting Weld Distortion. Another area of great interest within heavy industry is flexible manufacturing.
Robots, flexible systems, and automated software have been integrated in light industry for some time, but using agile production technology for high mix/low volume production is relatively new to many heavy fabrication operations. The potential to reduce downtime, minimize equipment customization, and improve quality, however, is a very exciting prospect for manufacturers of large equipment and structures.
EWI explores these advances in Challenges in Heavy Manufacturing Part II: Flexible Manufacturing. To download this guide, click here. To learn more about EWI’s flexible manufacturing capabilities, contact Ron Brown at [email protected] or Aaron Haines at [email protected].
