Integrated Computational Materials Engineering

October 25, 2012

Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) is an emerging discipline that can accelerate materials development and unify design and manufacturing. Last month, EWI and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) teamed up for a two-day technical workshop, Applying ICME to Solve Manufacturing Challenges, which focused on computational approaches for joining, forming and non-destructive evaluation processes. Subject matter experts from industry, academic, and government labs presented on how they’ve applied ICME principles and technical gaps that if closed could significantly impact manufacturing.

The workshop concluded with three productive breakout sessions covering how industry is successfully using modeling and computational analysis to solve today’s toughest joining, forming, and NDE challenges, and to consider potential applications of ICME in the near future. EWI will be releasing a summary paper of the workshop in the coming weeks.
