On April 9th, EWI hosted the official kickoff meeting for the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute. Representatives from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Navy, the Air Force, University of Michigan, The Ohio State University, and EWI met with ALMMII’s leadership team to hammer out specifics for the newest member of President Obama’s National Network of Manufacturing Innovation.
“It was great for all of the lead participants to get together face-to-face, and start working on the details of the institute,” ALMMII Executive Director Lawrence Brown reported. “We had an extremely productive and positive day, and can now move right to active operations.”

ALMMII expects to announce initial projects and call for proposals by July, and have the first awards determined by the end of the summer.
