Joining of Steel to Titanium with Interlayers — New Paper

February 15, 2017

snipAs manufacturers turn to multi-material designs to meet the ever-growing demands on their products, many are faced with the challenge of how to join dissimilar materials. Using traditional joining techniques, metallurgical incompatibilities of certain material combinations have greatly limited the performance and viability of many dissimilar joints. In order to achieve maximum performance from a multi-material design, new techniques for joining dissimilar materials must be developed.

EWI’s Jerry Gould, Mike Eff, and Kate Namola written Joining of Steel to Titanium with Interlayers to discuss EWI’s use of refractory metal foils in combination with established forge welding processes to create dissimilar weld joints. To download the paper, click here.
