It is well known that variation in amplitude can affect the consistent performance of an ultrasonic system for use in industry. In ultrasonic-assisted drilling (UAD), this matter is even more critical. Due to the unavailability of the drill tip during the drilling process, it is extremely difficult to measure varying process parameters such as load on drill-tip amplitude.
EWI has developed a new method to measure the effect of load on the amplitude of a UAD system. The results could significantly improve UAD process stability and quality control. The technique is described in a paper by EWI Project Engineer Amin Moghaddas, Evaluation of the Effect of Load on Vibration Amplitude in Ultrasonic-assisted Drilling.
