Recently, EWI associates and friends donated new and gently used books toward establishing a children’s library for the Bhutanese Nepali Community of Columbus. EWI librarians spearheaded the drive to celebrate Library Week 2016. In total, 560 board books, picture books, new-reader and first-chapter books, pre-teen and young adult titles were delivered to the BNCC center. Due to the overwhelming success of the drive, a second delivery is anticipated for later this month.
The Bhutanese Nepali Community of Columbus is a community-based non-profit organization founded in 2009 to serve Bhutanese refugees who came to central Ohio after spending about two decades in the refugee camps in eastern Nepal. Columbus has resettled 15-20,000 refugees.
The books will be used in child and adult programs, and make a wide range of books readily available to children for reading pleasure. Thanks to all who generously contributed to the effort!
