US Senator Rob Portman Chaired Energy Policy Roundtable Discussion at EWI

June 3, 2011

US Senator Rob Portman chaired an energy policy roundtable discussion here at EWI this week.  The event brought together a diverse cross section of Ohio manufacturers, large industrial energy consumers, energy and environmental organizations, small and large business, public interest organizations, government agencies, and policy makers to provide input on the issues and concerns of Ohio’s energy users and producers.

Did you know:

  • the demand for energy in the US is projected to increase by as much as 30% between now and 2030, and electricity demand is expected to go up 100%
  • global demand for energy could increase by 50% by 2030
  • the opportunity in shale gas is expected to be huge for Ohio, with early mobilization investments in our state already around $2 billion

Discussion revolved around Ohio’s need to develop a comprehensive strategy to address these issues and to roadmap Ohio’s plan for constructing advanced energy facilities and for exploring energy efficient manufacturing.

I think the Senator enjoyed his visit — check out his Tweet.
