Selecting the right quality evaluation method for polymer welds is critical for both developing an appropriate welding process and weld maintenance. This paper compares different evaluation methods and discusses strengths and weaknesses of each.

EWI’s affiliate Fabrisonic LLC has been working with NASA JPL and EWI to develop and qualify ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM) heat exchanger devices for improved performance. The paper discusses how structures created using UAM can increase functionality, robustness, and efficiency.

The use of lighter and stronger sheet materials is necessary to produce vehicles that meet consumer demands while also improving performance, fuel consumption, and emissions challenges.
